The Place Of Victory

Broken....
Not really of much use for anything when something is broken.
A broken vase cannot hold water....
A broken light fixture will give no light.
A broken hand cannot function in the way it was created to.
Broken....
Yet this is the very thing that must take place in order to find life in Jesus Christ.
This is the very first step on the road to recovery....the act of being broken.
Some would say that another word for broken might be "powerless."
No matter what the mind may tell you......
No matter what hopes and dreams you may create and aspire to reach....
When you are broken, you are unable to manage or rule your own personal life.
Drugs and alcohol will tell you differently.
They will whisper to you that your real problem is other people.
If they would just leave you alone....
If they would just get off of your back....
Then you could take care of your business.
But even with all those voices whispering to you, you know the real truth deep inside.
Your broken.
Pride won't let you admit that you exist in such a state as one who is broken.
Pride won't let you hear the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
You can read the Bible, but pride won't let you receive what you read.
You can go to rehab.
Pride won't let you reach the place where being broken allows healing to take place.

Pride chides and belittles you with thoughts of "If you'd just try a little harder, you'd get it this time."
Then when you fail, pride is there to push your face down into the dust and berate you to try it one more time.
Broken is the place where you find rest for your soul, as well as your mind and body.
Being broken is the place where you can lay everything down and receive this life that has eluded you for many years. A life of sobriety and fulfillment that can only be found in Jesus.
No wonder in John 14:6, Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." Jesus never claimed to be "A" way or "Some" way, or "One of many" ways.
How much more direct can you be than to say, "I am THE way." But we run around looking and searching for the easier softer way, ignoring all the while the way to real life.

I guess the greatest moment for me is when a person reaches that place of being broken and then cries out to God to be restored. It is at this point that the battle is finished. This struggle with the old life is laid down and a new one is begun. This new life is scary and can be a bit frightful. The unknown always scares us.....but rest in the knowledge that through your being broken, you have taken the hand of someone far stronger and greater than yourself. He will be with you from now on. He will never desert you are forsake you. Who is the person of such great power? Jesus Christ. May you find Him today.

God on you.....
