Where The Needle Met The Cross

He came up to me after the meeting last night....
Eyes, sunken.....

Face gaunt.....
No emotion whatsoever.....voice was almost a whisper....
His arms kept the score of the needle he'd been using....
His body was thin and gaunt and showed too many days without a meal.
Yet....
Even with all of this testimony to the death he'd been walking around with....
He wanted to quit.

He was desperate to quit...
Yet the power of the drug and the devil was pulling hard against his will.

Slowly he gave the details of the past, leading up to this night.
Knowing full well that he is powerless.....
Knowing full well that he was on the road to death and destruction...
He was like a train wreck waiting to happen which could not be diverted or stopped.

Even with all of this in his life....
There was still a spark of hope.....
A voice of reason that told him to not give up....

That, my friend, is the Power that is greater than ourselves we find in Step #2.
A Power that can shatter the darkness of addiction and the lies of the enemy to bring that tiny spark of hope....
That small flame that illuminates the darkness and opens the door to new life and relationship with Jesus Christ.

I gathered up some of the man's friends who knew him from his days at Rapha, and we prayed over him.
Collectively, we brought the POWER that lived in us through our relationship with Christ, to bear against the power the addiction had over this young man.
As we prayed, he began to cry....
He wanted to believe that this time would be different....
He wanted to believe in a Power greater than himself could restore him to sanity....
He wanted to believe that this was the last time he claimed death as his closest friend.....
He wanted to believe.

After we finished, we saw a different color to the Power......the color of love.
One of the men who was a friend of the one we were praying for, agreed to pick up the young man this morning, and take him to get help. One person reaching out to another is what this journey is all about.

For this one who came forward for help and prayer, the battle isn't over....
But a new direction has been taken in his journey...

One of restoration and hope.
Payday!

God on you...
mb

Please be in prayer for this young man...
There are hard days ahead for him, but nothing compared to the days he would be facing if he'd rejected help and continued to slide further into the darkness.
