Nori Kelley And Spring Rain

Hosea 6:3
So let us know....let us press on to know the LORD.
His going forth is as certain as the dawn, and He will

come to us like the rain. Like the spring rain watering the earth.

Nori and Barbie Kelley, along with their daughters, Lizzie and Cynthea, will be with us this coming Saturday night at Vineyard Recovery.

Nori wrote and recorded a song on his first album, Spring Rain, using this scripture from Hosea 6:3. It has become my most favorite song of all. Only lasting shy under 2 minutes, the words and melody of Hosea 6:3 keep me looking forward to the next meeting, the next encounter. It gives me the hope of knowing that the best God wants to accomplish in my life is still ahead. It fuels me to press on. To not quit when life seems too hard. To not give up when things stack up against me. To not turn back when the emotional, mental and spiritual storms roll up and into my life. Press on! Lean into! Push ahead!

Very simple words:

Let us know - Let us understand the full measure and weight of who God is. Let us have no question as to His capability and willingness to exercise it in our lives. Let us know. Let us experience God daily in our lives. The devil wants you to become so distracted that you don't think about God. He wants you to relegate God to the back burner and focus only on the pain and unfairness of this life. Hosea says, "No!" The fullness of a person's life is measured by how well he knows and understands God.

Let us press on to know the Lord - We cannot be deterred by any thing that would seek to position itself between us and our knowing and understanding God. We cannot allow anyone or anything to push back against our pursuit of God. Knowing God is our highest calling. To experience the love and pleasure that God feels for us is an incredible thing. The whole of society today teaches us (in subtle ways and means) that life has no meaning. That we are nothing more than a collection of molecules and atoms that randomly came together and formed us as humans. Not so. The divine hand of God has shaped each of us and, even though we may not be aware of it, we are image bearers of God himself. Sin has twisted and distorted that image. God wants to restore it.

His going forth is as certain as the dawn - God tells us in scripture that "He is the Lord God, He does not change". In other words, if Scripture describes attributes and attitudes of God, then those same things are at work in us and around us today. Just as the sun comes up every morning...so does the word of God stand true no matter what mankind or society proclaims. God is the ultimate source of truth and right-ness. Take that to the bank.

And He will come to us like the rain - Growing up, I loved it when a storm would come up suddenly in the summertime. The wind would move in, bringing relief as the temperature dropped. You knew that the rain was on the way and eventually those huge drops would begin to fall, kicking up the dust. Gardens would be watered. The dry hard earth would be watered making it usable for planting and growing a garden. God comes us and rains on each of us, watering the hard, dry places of our heart. His rain makes our hearts open to receive the planting of His promises and His word. From those dry, hard places will blossom gardens of truth and evidence in our lives that God is who He claimed to be and will do what He has promised He would do.

Like the spring rain, watering the earth - Any farmer worth his salt will tell you that his crops are dependent on the spring, or early rain. The amount of rain received in the spring determines the crop yield that comes at harvest. God's rain and presence of His Holy Spirit are what propels us into this journey of following Him. We need remember that when our days seem long and difficult, and rain is hard to come by...we have not been forgotten or discarded. Hold to what you know to be the truth of who you are in Christ and what you have been called to. God will come...God will come, like the spring rain. He will be there at the deepest moment of need. We know that Jesus said that he would never leave us nor forsake us. So what does it mean when I am struggling and don't feel like God is any where in the building? It just means that you are having a feeling. Nothing more, nothing less...just a feeling. God is there. God has not left you. He understands your needs and struggles He sends His provision, His rain if will, at just the precise moment when it will best suit the struggle you are in. There isn't any wasted rain in God's kingdom. It produces life in each of us. It accomplishes God's will in each of us.

Let God rain on you today!
God on you...
