There Be Giants

Step # 12
Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others and to practice these principals in all our affairs.

There are giants in the land....
I sat at a table Saturday morning with them....
It was an honor and privilege to be able to do so...
These giants aren't measured by height....at least not be the kind of height you can see with the naked eye...

These giants are measured by heart...
Because such giants as these have been called by God to walk out daily this thing we call Step # 12.

I listen to their stories and are amazed at the lack of self-promotion I hear coming from them. They care not for themselves, but rather are driven to reach others who are still trapped in addiction. No matter how many they reach, it wasn't enough simply because there is still another out there dwelling in the darkness of hopelessness. There is still one more that needs to hear that there is a way out.....a Higher Power......Life found in the One we call Jesus.

In an age where numbers are the measurement of churches....these giants only care about the one....the one who hasn't heard the message. The one who stands outside the potential for a new life. That is what drives them. The one....the next one.

These giants possess something that others who have attained success seem to loose along the way.....the heart of a servant. That is their call, to serve. Serve in whatever capacity is needed. They seek not the spotlight or to be famous. They seek only to serve and rescue the next one.

These giants still roam the earth.
If you didn't know them....
If you didn't know their story, you never suspect them to be giants.

Their greatness comes from humility....
From choosing to shun the spotlight in order to simply be a vehicle through which God speaks to those in need of hearing the story of hope.
You see these giants have lived in the darkness of addiction.
They fully know the pain that comes from such a life...

They have left behind their own path of destruction.
Notice the key word here....."Left behind"...

They didn't just walk away from it. They dealt with it....made amends for it...asked forgiveness, and then moved forward.

Yes sir, I got to sit at the table with these giants, and I was honored to do so.
In fact, I get to see them daily, and talk with them about where this recovery is headed.
What is next on God's plate for those who seek to walk out the Twelve Steps?

Simple....
Find the next one who needs to hear the message.
Pretty simple, huh?
I think maybe that is the way God wants it to be......simple that is.
We have a tendency to complicate and overstate the simplicity that is found on the path of recovery.

Pray for these giants...
That the fire of God in their hearts never goes out...
Pray that other giants will be raised up to join the ranks...
Imagine an army of giants moving through our cities and communities, going into the dark places where addiction/sin likes to hide.

Bless the giants today, Father.
In Jesus name, Amen.

God on you...
