Time For Today

The very first words spoken by God in the book of Revelation (Rev. 1:8) details his power and ability. Neither are limited by time. "I am the Alpha and Omega....the beginning and the end." Time was a canvas created by God in which to interact with mankind, His creation. The greatest invader of time was the creator of time itself.

Jesus died on a cross, willingly giving up His own life. Willingly giving His own blood as a once and for all time payment for the sin of the world., His power and ability superseded death, and was not bound by time, as he rose from the dead and ascended back to heaven, a place not bound by time.

What does this have to do with us?
Coming to realize that the one we worship looks for us to not be bound by the constraints of time. To be called to live in the here and now. One day at a time! I've always kind of found that A.A. saying to be a bit cheesy...but I've never found a greater truth that this. That we are truly called to address the issues that we will face today. I can look back at my history, my past, and spend my "today" full of guilt, shame, and regrets. I can look forward to tomorrow, giving no thought to today, and miss the direction and blessing God may have for me.

God has called each of us to walk in peace and patience fully aware and assured that His plans for us are in place. That His Holy Spirit is not held back or stopped by the events or situations of the day. God is not limited by the failure of the United States Government. He is not swayed by the collapse of the economic system of the world. Even now, there is a re-examination of all the church is going through, as attendance falls and people are leaving in droves. The hardship of tough economic times has knocked on the door of many a church. Such events tend to draw attention away from the very one who said that "HE would build His church".

The church is being tested and shown exactly where their faith and trust is located and who it is they have been worshiping and serving. The love for God has shifted to the love of blessings from God. In other words, conditional love. We have been caught up in the emotion and hoopla of this promise of wealth and have not sought out God through His word. We have allowed our hearts to be taken by a false allegiance to the things of this world and not to the giver of all good things.

If I cannot live for this moment....
If I cannot focus on this day....
I will lose what God is trying to do in my life.

He has called each of us to be His voice, His arms, His legs, His hands to a world that is chasing time. As Mark Heard so aptly wrote in his song "Crying Again"...."The world rides its passion with the throttle in their hands."  I guess the bottom line is..........does life drive you, or are you driving life?

The greater question would be who do you serve today?
Time?
Or God?

God on you.......
