Like Sands Through The Hour Glass.....

Genesis 1:5
.....And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.

If we read the creations story in Genesis chapter one, we are kind of overwhelmed by the cosmic activity that is described. Formless planet covered in darkness....empty, no life....completely submerged under water. There in that chaos a voice is heard. A voice that is not human, but divine. One whose words carry not only weight but also power. Each command given by this voice is followed by activity as the planet succumbs to the words that were spoken. Great upheaval as light appears, seas are divided by dry ground. All because of  the power of the words spoken by this voice.

The process goes on and on until the earth as we know it to be stands as a finished product. To the reader, the greatest thing that took place during this birthing of our world goes unnoticed. The creation of time. A measurement that affects us all. I began to think about this last night, and it came in a most unusual way. I thought back to our vacation last July, sitting on the balcony of our room, watching the ocean. Waves roll in............waves roll out. Never ceasing, always moving. They are not affected by what I do or where I go. If I get up from that balcony and drive to a store nearby, the waves continue to roll. If I go to bed at the end of the day, the waves continue to roll. Such is the way of time.

It is always moving forward ( kind of weird to say that what with daylight savings time ending this weekend). Even with setting our clocks back an hour this weekend really doesn't affect time. Such is just our way of keeping track.
I don't think we realize how little of time each of us has. I think maybe if we did, we'd live different. We each are given a finite amount of time. By that, I mean that we each have only a certain number of days that we will live here in this life. According to my calculations, I have lived approximately 23,360 days here on this earth. The government has determined that the average age of a male is 74 years. According to this statistic, I have 3,650 days left. Now I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound like a lot.

Time is always moving forward in each of our lives. We don't truly understand the need to make it count. God did not call us to live our lives in the darkness of sin. We were not created to be addicts. To pursue the false reality that our drugs and alcohol lead us to. We were created to live under the influence of God's Holy Spirit. To be lead by Him. To have relationship with God. To grow and mature under his instructing us. We were created to rise above the mess that this earth, this society has created. A world of illusion, propped up with empty promises and half truths that have left many a man and woman broken and laying in the gutter wondering what had happened to them.

It doesn't matter how much time has passed....
What matters is what are you going to do with the time you have left?

Are you going to continue to live each day wandering, lost and without purpose?
Or are you going to turn your will and life over to the care of the One who created you?

My most favorite verse in the Bible is found in Job 42:17. Now if you know anything about the story of Job, you know that he had a rough stretch of time in his life. He lost everything he owned.....came down with a skin disease that was unbearable.....but through all of this, he did not sin or accuse God for his lot in life. Job stood and weathered all the hardship, but when we get to the end of Job's life, we read.....Job died an old man, full of years. Isn't that a great way of describing a life....one that was full of years. A life that had overcome the world and now, here at the end, had crossed over to a place where there wasn't any time. A place of rest and peace. A place where he could meet and stand face to face with the One who loved him and had guided Job through those years. He met his Maker. He met God.

So what are you doing with your time?
Are you seeking out and pursing the Kingdom of God? His rule and reign in your life?
Think on this today...
God on you...
