How Many More Lord?

If you'd met him on the street, you would not have given any thought to him.
He was just another nameless face that you might see in any city, town or community.
In fact, the two of you probably never would have made eye contact because he always walked with his face down.
Too many years....
Too many miles....
He was just beat down.
He had simply given up and surrendered to a life he knew all to well.
There had been those who'd tried to help him, but in the end, he rejected all help to continue in a lifestyle that everyone knew would not end well. Tug of the old life was stronger than the promise of a new and better life.
He was soft spoken and a man of few words.
His speech was always peppered with "Yes sir" and "No sir" when you talked with him.
Face creased with lines of a life lived hard, he seldom smiled, but when he did, his entire face would just light up.
Someone found him dead yesterday, living in an abandoned house.
No family and the only friends he had were those who shared the same life of misery.
He left this world alone and in the dark. To me that is the most horrible thought...to be alone when it is your time to die.
I pray that the things he'd heard and the things he'd been taught might have caused him to reach out to God before he died..
Like I said, you'd not give another thought about him if you'd met him on the street.
But regardless, he was one of God's creations and he was a man.
I will miss him.
in memory of Michael....
