Do Words Really Matter?
.....But the word of our God stands forever......
That's a pretty bold statement.
It isn't about the book, some call the Bible.
It's about the power that comes through what is in the book.
The words....
Not words jotted down hurriedly in an effort to capture a good thought...or a wonderful idea.
No..these words were transferred....breathed into men who wrote them down.
Such words as these have transcended time itself.
These words are not bound by culture or geography.
These God words are not limited by government or rule by any one person or group.
Oh, there have been attempts to shut the words down.
Futile efforts to keep them locked away from others.
But this is the funny part about these words.
The tighter you try to hold them so that they don't escape, the more they seem to flourish and slip through your fingers. It's like trying to lay hold to a handful of water. You can cup your hand and allow the water to sit in the hollow..but you cannot clinch a fist of water. Not possible.
These words have seemed to have fallen out of favor with many in our country today.
Why?
I think because they are true.
Truth has a way of uncovering and laying bare that which we want to remain hidden.
Such things that are hidden are usually stepped in sin and darkness.
These words have a way of laying open (as it says in Hebrews) the very intent and motive behind our thoughts. These words are like a spiritual x-ray which reveals all the broken and diseased places in our hearts.
Hebrews 4:12
For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.
The verse above claims that the Word of God is alive. I have no problem with that. Scripture states that the worlds are framed by God's word. In other words, it is God's word that keeps the planets in place. It keeps planet earth on a constant course around the sun. Moving a few degrees either way...closer to the sun or farther away from the sun would bring devastation to this world. But God's ability and power through His spoken commands keeps that from happening. So if God's nature keeps the cosmos in order....imagine what would happen if I opened my heart...I mean really open that sucker up, and let God speak into it. To allow myself to be shown the truth of who I am and what He wants to do through me, to me and for me.
I am going to go ahead and make this statement.
Rehab would no longer be a part of any future you may be thinking about.
Using and getting high would be replaced by a peace and assurance that God has your back.
Doesn't mean that life becomes one sweetly paved Autobahn for you to drive willy-nilly on. But it does mean that no matter what you face...no matter what comes your way...God is there to guide you and help you get through it.
Now...
What I have just written today....
Is either true...
Or it isn't.
You can slice it and make it a little true or some true...
Check out God's word for yourself.
Start in the Gospel's...
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John....preferably John.
pretty cool words to chew on.
Hope to see you tomorrow night at Vineyard Recovery...7 p.m.
God on you....
