Community---The Tie That Binds

Genesis 1:27-28
So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him. Male and female, He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.....

You and I were created for community.
To live among a people and be a part of the daily life and activity of that community.
When I use that term, community, some think of the street or road they live on, and the surrounding neighbors. While that is true, the community that I am speaking of is a group of people with like minded goals and beliefs.
Some call these support groups. I prefer the name community for some reason.
We were created for relationship. We have an inborn need to be a part of something. To worship something. To have a common core of beliefs that connect us to something greater than ourselves.

The devil knows and understands the power of community. Since his nature is to divide and conquer, his main purpose is to cut us out of any community or help that may be afforded to us. As addiction grows in an individual, they slowly began to isolate. They pull away from any family contact, except when they need to use the family to take care of some need. In the isolation, the addictive mind is ripe for being filled with all manner of nonsense and lies. We reason that we are not loved. That no one cares about us. In that place of ultimate, isolated selfishness is where the true seeds of destruction are sown. We don't realize that our family and friends have pulled away from us because we are destroying them. We are sucking the very life out of everyone around us. They are simply trying to survive. Isolation always opens an individual up for this train of thought and emotion.

In the opening line of today's posting, I wrote that you and I were created for community, for relationship. The ultimate thought and reason behind our being created, is that we were brought forth for God's good pleasure. He finds pleasure in us. In loving us and gifting us from His riches. I know what it is has been like to watch my sons grow from babies to men. I know what it is like to have grand children and watch them grow and struggle and learn. There is a deep pleasure in just being with them. Now if I am capable of experiencing such feelings and pleasure, how much more is my Father in heaven able to experience such things? How much more is my elder brother, Jesus, able to experience when He intercedes before His Father on our behalf. How much more does the Holy Spirit find pleasure as He teaches us and then watches over us as we exercise what we have learned from Him.

We have been created to be connected to our fellow man and woman.
We have been created to be connected to our God.

So instead of support groups...
Why not call them lifelines......
Think on these things today....

God on you...
