Here they are. Dr. Bob and Bill W. ---co-founders of Alcoholics Anonymous. Two men who were brought together by their struggles with alcohol and through their friendship found sobriety. Of course we know that there was much more at work here than chance or fate or karma. God was the instigator and power behind what we now know as 12 Steps. Dr. Bob and Bill W. were the instruments used to birth the AA/12 Step movement. And movement is what it is!Love it or hate, you cannot argue with the success of AA, a teaching based on 3 things.
1.) The Sermon on the mount
2.) I Corinthians 13
3.) The Book of James
AA Stresses that only a power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity. That power is Jesus Christ.........not a door knob or a tree..............Just Jesus!
In the AA big book, under the HOW IT WORKS section, you can read the following.
"rarely have we seen any fail who rigorously follows these steps".
The following of the steps is not through human effort, it is a plan of surrender to God.
How original is that? Imagine! Surrender of your life and will to God in order to achieve not just sobriety, but new found life.
Here is the original cover for the AA Big Book. Of course included in these 12 Steps is a pointer to the BIGGER BOOK which should be our practical direction for everyday life. So our job is "having had a spiritual awakening, we take the message to others who are trapped in their addiction."
