Mary did you know with lyrics in English and Dutch
Each year at this time, I try to keep my mind reeled in to what Christmas is really about.
A celebration of light in the form of the Christ Child.
"Unto you this day in the city of David there has been born a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."
I think one of the reasons the world embraces this birth of Christ is because of a simple fact.
He is a baby. Babies aren't threatening, unless of course you are the devil in which case you have been constantly going around killing male children in order to stop the promise of the coming Messiah.
Babies are cute.
Babies are cuddly.
Babies can't take care of themselves.
Therefore, this version or view of Jesus is not threatening.
Given if you read your Bible and you come to Revelation 19 where it describes this same Jesus as the Captain of the Host of heaven, well it's a different ball game.
I am reminded at this time of year of the fact that Jesus was born with a purpose. To redeem mankind and break the power of sin.
Even though I celebrate the birth of Christ, tied in there in the midst of the celebration is the resurrection. Throw in some hope that Jesus is coming back and you got the makings of a good holiday.
So make this one a great Christmas.
It's not about presents....
Or shopping....
Or money and plastic...
It's about the intrusion of God into our time and space to open a door for whosoever will come.
Merry Christmas!
God on you...
