Matthew 2:11
They entered the house where the child and his mother, Mary, were, and they fell down before him and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Men from east who'd been traveling for some time.
Men, following a star, sought out this babe who was unlike any other born to this world.
Do you think they were surprised when they arrived at the home of Mary and Joseph?
It wasn't the kind of place a king would have been born in, yet these magi proclaimed to Herod that they were in search of the child who was the King of the Jews.
Later this same child would be declared to be KING over all who lay claim to the title of king and LORD over all who lay claim to being a lord.
The magi were not deterred by what they saw upon their arrival.
They took their gifts of great wealth and entered the house and there upon seeing Mary with the baby....fell to their faces and worshiped him.
Do you think they sang songs?
I don't know.
Do you think the Spirit of God filled the room so that there was a divine understanding among all there of the importance of this time and season?
I don't know.
I do know this.
The magi's presence and posture was heart-felt and true.
They worshiped the babe, Jesus the Messiah.
They were moved to do so.
With this in mind, how can we go to our churches and gathering places week after week and be so blase' about worship.
We work so hard to make sure the music is right.
We work so hard to make sure the vocals and instruments are just right.
We work so hard to make sure that the lighting is right..
and yet,
we neglect our hearts.
Worship comes from a heart that is grateful for what Jesus has done.
Worship wells up inside and bursts forth in many different ways.
Shouting....
Clapping your hands....
Sitting silent, simply overcome with the reality of who Jesus is and what He has done for us.
Falling to your knees, eyes closed and hands raised.
Jumping...
Running....
Standing, not saying anything or moving because the weight of God's glory has just overwhelmed you.
Worship begins in the heart.
We would do well to spend time preparing our hearts to enter into God's presence.
Remember....
Worship...don't leave home without it.
Merry Christmas....
God on you.....
