The Light Within Me Shines

John 1:4-5
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it (Overpower it).

Taught from John 1 last night at the 9 p.m. Bible study.
This first chapter of John always blows my doors off every time I read it. I mean, come on! Take a look at how John opened the chapter.  He makes these incredible statements of truth using the simplest of words. In fact he uses very few words that have more than one syllable, and in these statements, we are taught the relationship between the Father and the Son.
"In the beginning was the Word....
And the Word was with God...
And the Word was God."

The relationship between Father and Son, yet all bound up in One! Throw in the Holy Spirit and you got a winning combination.
Notice the verse 4 statement: In Him (Jesus) was life.  Not the breathing-heart-beating-walking-around-life, but divine, eternal-standing-outside-of-time-kind-of-life. In this one verse we see the best and worst linked together because of the love God has for His creation. We see Jesus full of life and in the next verse, John writes, "And the life was the light of men." The Pure, Holy, Filled with Majesty Son of God giving life to a creation (humanity) who rejected Him and crucified Him. Like I said the Best (Jesus) and the worst (humanity) all in the same verse. Yet we are eternally connected because of the fall of man in the garden. Connected? How? God's plan to redeem humanity and restore them to the place they occupied before the fall. A right relationship with God............a life of communion--Him and us, through the life given to us by Jesus. Verse 12 reads: But as many as received Him, to them, He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.

It is hard for me sometimes to come to terms with this life / light that has been given to me by Jesus.
What do I know because of this life that is living inside me ( don't think I've lost my English marbles..Paul stated that the life He lives, he now lives for Christ for it is God who will and works inside to perfect and mature and grow him.

Matthew 5:14, Jesus says that "We are the light of the world."
He goes on to say in Verse 16 -- "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."
Did you catch that?
John says Jesus is life.
The life that Jesus has is light to men.
When we receive His life/ light we become the light of the world. Not a light, but the light. We become a part of something bigger than ourselves........the church........the body of Christ. We become "A" light to point to those who don't know Jesus in the right direction.
Wow!
Suddenly I feel like the Energizer Bunny.........Whamwhamwhamwhamwham!
Go be light today.

God on you....
