Good Sunday morning to you!
Yesterday's "Breakfast give away" got off to a good start.
I want to give a big shout out and "thanks" to our core group
for stepping up and taking care of the folk's who came by to
get a meal.
This was an opportunity for us to give back...to reach out...and to establish
some relationship with others. It is also an opportunity for us to grow as a community of like-minded folk.
I think maybe God gave us a sign yesterday through the life of the first person who showed up to get a meal.
They came by around 7:30 a.m. (we were slated to start serving at 8:30).
Hunger doesn't always go by the clock, so we got them a plate of food as quick as we could.
Turns out this person has a pretty incredible story. Back in 2003 (I may have the date wrong.. The old "noggin" factory don't work as well as it use to) they had an accident. They fell off the top story of Daughette Towers, a building located in downtown Gadsden. Pretty much broke every bone in their body and had internal injuries galore. But the one thing that got me was them saying that at one point they did die.
In their own words: "I was moving down this long corridor and I could see light at the end. The closer I got to the light, I saw Jesus. I was almost at a point where I could reach out and touch Him, when He motion me to turn around, the He said, "Go back! It's not your turn yet."
The medics were able to get his heart started.
This person spent 1 year in UAB hospital, and another year in rehab.
The doctor's gave all manner of dire diagnosis.
#1- the brain was damaged beyond repair.
#2 - They would never walk again
#3- They would never be able to function in a normal life.
Yet, here was this person sitting in front of me telling me their story.
I asked if they had relationship with Christ....had they been saved.
I asked if they had relationship with Christ....had they been saved.
They looked at me and slowly said, "What do you think? Yes! I'm saved".
So here for our first breakfast giveaway was person who had died and then not only brought back to life, but was able to live a full normal life.
Isn't that what recovery is truly all about?
Seeing "dead men and women" brought to life through the saving power of
Christ?
Christ?
Like I said, I think maybe God was giving a thumbs up to us to let us know that we were on the right track.
Regular service this coming Saturday night / April 17th
Next Breakfast give away/ April 24th.
God on you....
