IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW YOU LOOK AT THIS VERSE
Moving through Hebrews this morning, I came across this verse:
Is there truth to this verse?
Yes...
But I do believe that the truth is found in the way it is viewed by the reader.
One who stands before God each day as unrepentant, willfully sinning, and living outside His will finds this verse not only uncomfortable, but downright scary.
They may thump their chest and proclaim, "I do not believe such a God exists that would send souls to hell." Or maybe they fall upon the claim of not believing in God at all. Why do they fear? Because we all will meet Him at some point to give an account of our life. Those who have rejected God will receive their reward by being cast away from His presence.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
You earn wages. You have worked for them. Sin has a payoff and it isn't a good one.
Did you notice that it said "The gift OF God"....not the gift from God?
God has given of Himself, in the form of His Son, Jesus, to secure eternal life and relationship with Him. Life now, Life Tomorrow, Life forever.
So why, as a believer, would it be a fearful thing to fall into the hands of God?
Because He IS God.
Because the fear I feel is the kind that comes from reverence and awe of who He is.
Yes, God is love...
Yes, He is mercy...
Yes, He is compassion, and grace, and forgiveness, and about a gazillion other words that describe His nature and character........But He is still God.
Worthy to be worshiped.
Worthy to receive our praise.
God on you...
